OpenAI is reportedly close to securing up to $30 billion in private funding at a $1.25 trillion pre-money valuation, in a round led by Coatue and UAE investors, according to sources cited by CNBC. The financing could be paired with a deal to secure additional computing capacity from the UAE. OpenAI declined to comment.

The report follows Bloomberg’s account a month ago that the AI lab was seeking $30 billion at a $1.4 trillion valuation. Both outlets said terms are still under negotiation and could change.

A valuation above $1 trillion would make OpenAI the most valuable private company ever and set a higher bar for its planned IPO. The ChatGPT maker filed confidential IPO paperwork in June, after its March round valued it at $852 billion post-money.

The move could also affect rival Anthropic, whose public listing is widely seen as closer, with its public S-1 filing rumored to be imminent. CNBC reports Anthropic is targeting a $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion valuation for its debut. The Claude maker raised $65 billion at a $965 billion valuation in May and filed confidential IPO paperwork in June.
