The Maggioli Group has acquired a 20% stake in DatAIMed, a Turin-based startup founded by Dario Taborelli, through a €1.2 million capital increase. DatAIMed has built a European, evidence-based artificial intelligence platform for clinical knowledge and continuing medical education.
The platform allows healthcare professionals to ask questions in natural language and receive concise summaries, with every statement linked directly to a verifiable source. It searches international biomedical literature and institutional references, including the European Medicines Agency, Italy’s medicines agency AIFA and the country’s National Guidelines System. It can also integrate internal protocols and procedures from individual healthcare facilities, bringing scattered knowledge into one searchable system.
By streamlining access to research, guidelines and internal documents, DatAIMed aims to cut the time doctors and researchers spend on research and documentation while supporting better-informed clinical decisions.
Designed specifically for European healthcare, the platform hosts its infrastructure and data within the EU, ensuring GDPR compliance and preventing customer data from being used to train models.
DatAIMed faces a crowded market for healthcare AI, where startups and established technology companies are competing to provide clinical decision support and medical education tools. Its prospects will depend on differentiating its evidence-based approach and gaining adoption across European healthcare systems with differing regulatory and data governance rules.
