Meta’s AI agent Muse has become one of only 12 mobile apps to reach 10 million U.S. downloads within 40 days of release, according to Sensor Tower. The app has recorded 10.9 million downloads since its September debut, 10.2 million of them in the U.S.
Kara Lee, senior insights analyst at Sensor Tower, said the previous app to reach the milestone was Meta’s Threads in July 2023, with most others being mobile games such as Fortnite and Pokémon GO. Disney+ is the only other non-game app in the group.
Meta has promoted Muse across its family of apps, which have 3.6 billion daily active users, and has also increased advertising spend sharply. Sensor Tower data shows Muse accounted for 39% of Meta’s ad spend in October, up from 23% in September.
The agent, which performs tasks on users’ behalf, is also outperforming AI rivals on retention. In the U.S., it posted 30% retention after seven days and 23% after 14 days, compared with averages of 19% and 16% for ChatGPT, Claude and Grok. Daily active users reached 2.5 million on October 16.
ChatGPT recorded 3.7 million U.S. downloads in its first 40 days, while Grok and Claude saw 500,000 and 200,000, respectively. Muse, available only in the U.S. and Canada, has held the №1 U.S. App Store spot on nearly every day since release.
